If you enjoy the Ballet you will love being a member of Kansas City Ballet Guild! The Kansas City Civic Ballet was founded in 1957 by Miss Tatiana Dokoudovska, assisted by Mrs. Sol Glass and Mrs. Charles A. Salley. The first performance was held at Wyandotte High School in Kansas City, Kansas. In 1961, the Kansas City Ballet Guild was formed by the dancers’ mothers, who were eager to promote interest in and provide financial assistance for the young company. The Guild solicited donations from area businesses, sold tickets, and handled nearly every “behind the scenes” aspect of the performances, including scenery, costumes, and lighting. Today the Guild has a membership of approximately 150 and has remained an active, viable organization. As the Guild grows, its emphasis continues to be one of promoting and providing financial assistance to the now professional company and ballet school, as well as stimulating greater interest in ballet within the community. The major fundraising projects of the Guild include the annual Ballet Ball and the Gift Boutique at each Kansas City Ballet performance. When you become a Guild member of Kansas City Ballet you are given the unique opportunity to support our ballet through your involvement and support of these events, plus participate in social events while enjoying the company of other ballet supporters.
